Humpback whales are back for their annual winter visit. It’s still early in the season, but the numbers are picking up. This photo is of a pair of whales making a splendid synchronized dive.
I love whale season. So far this year it’s been a bit slow for me. Mostly I’ve been seeing a blow and then a dive and they’re gone for a while. Must be something I said!
Yes, they come in quite close sometimes. For photos it’s best to go out on a boat as they can get closer, with official limits. From the shore, it’s more hit and miss. I’m still waiting to capture a really good shot, but photo or not, it’s always a thrill to see a whale breach, especially if it’s not far out.
When we went to the Azores, we wanted to see the whales but they decided that they didn’t want to see us. What a pity! Great pic (as usual)!
