Murals tell stories and this one, on the side of the Hawi Post Office building, tells the story of North Kohala’s sugar plantation era. The mural was painted by students from Kohala High School working with staff, faculty and community members.

Pingback: Hawi street art | Graham's Island
Wow!!!! What an awesome artwork, Graham — horses and all. So I went to the link you provided and discovered that Patrick Ching was the artist, along with the students. I have two Patrick Ching originals here in my home in California! And my recent blog post has a photo of Patrick STANDING on top of his daughter’s horse, Ehukai :)) You will enjoy seeing this rare insight into the artist :)) Dawn
(Two individuals standing on horses: Tabitha, on Molokai on her pony, Small Boy, and Patrick Ching on Ehukai in Waimanalo, years ago. Both of them just spontaneously stood for me, and my camera — no prompts from me — just something they each had enjoyed, for fun, and wanted to show me, with their horses :))

Yes, I like it too. I particularly like how they incorporated the bright yellow of the building into the mural. I’m glad you followed up on the link to find out about the artist. That’s a fun photo of him standing on the horse.
