Following up on my recent shark encounter, a more serene sighting in the same general area, but on a different day.
I saw this green turtle gliding toward me and catching the light in a lovely way. Clumsy on land, turtles are a different animal in the water — graceful, effortless, and at ease in their environment.
So crystal clear! Beautiful!

Yes. Love those turtles. And on an an entirely different topic, I just saw that we have a new vent opened spilling lava in the middle of Leilani Estates down in Puna, not that far from Hilo, though it won’t be a threat there.

I saw that on the news, Graham! We have a house in upcountry Hilo so we’re not worried…yet. Hope you can take part in the Sunday Stills challenge that I’m hosting, that starts this Sunday. I’ve posted the theme (refreshing) on my Sundays Stills page. I’m sure you will come up with a good one!

”Swam with” is the wrong word, it swam passed us underwater and it only took about 10 seconds. But they were memorable seconds

The only way you swim with them is if they’re amenable to that. I think one of the things I really like about them is they’re such good swimmers. A few strokes of those flippers and they’re gone. I saw one this morning when I was focused on something else. It looked a bit surprised to see me, and just zoomed away.

Hahah. I can imagine. The grace with which they moved was beautiful. I wouldn’t even try to swim with one/chase one, or any wild animals.
