Rainbow Falls are located in Wailuku River State Park, in Hilo. They get their name from the fact that, in the mornings, rainbows often form in the mist from the falls (above).
Center, someone left an offering, possibly to Hina, mother of the demigod Maui, who is said to have lived in the cave behind the falls.
And below, someone who has inadvertently walked past the 83,000 ‘Danger’ and ‘Warning’ signs to wander around at the top of the falls. Flash floods occur often and people die here every year.
You know what, you live in paradise. You don’t need to die! Such stunning places…

I guarantee that everyone who goes past the signs thinks it won’t happen to them, and most of them are right. But it does happen to a few every year.

At least you got the rainbow in your shot! People are crazy–we saw several young folks clambering around below (shakes head).

If people want to take risks, I have no problem with that. However, when people get swept away here, divers and other rescuers typically have to spend a couple of days searching in those dangerous waters. And then, if and when someone is recovered, either they or their surviving family sue the county for not keeping them safe!
