Waimea pu’u

A hill in Hawaii catches late afternoon sun

I think this is Pu’u Kaliali, southeast of Waimea, catching a patch of late afternoon sun on an otherwise cloudy day. Waimea is the home to Parker Ranch, the second largest ranch in the U.S.A – there’s a bigger one in Texas of course. The rolling pasture land in the area is home to a large contingent of cattle.

We drove through this area on Thursday and it struck me how much this looks like areas in Northern California, especially Vacaville and Fairfield along the I-80. The velvety grasslands, rolling hills and of course cattle and other livestock are the hallmark of those areas. I’m always impressed at the Big Island’s climate zones. Gorgeous picture, Graham with the sunlight on the hill!

It’s a pastoral scene that could be from many places around the world. It was a cloudy day so the sunlight was a bonus and the main reason I took the photo.
