This week’s Sunday Stills challenge theme is ‘Glacier Blue.’ See more responses here.
We’re a little short on glaciers here on the Big Island, but the color description made me think of Kiholo Bay, where fresh water intrusion gives the water a different look to most places around here. The bay is also a great place to see turtles, which can be seen in the water and hauled out on the shore to rest.
This turtle was swimming in the bay where the gently rippling surface gave it an abstract appearance as it came up for air.

Beautiful and intriguing and I love how the intricate scales on the top of the head show up.

When the water’s clear and the light is right their markings are just beautiful.

A bit chilly in Hawaii? Gorgeous picture, Graham. Wish I was there. Have you ever seen a turtle while swimming in the ocean?

I see turtles pretty regularly when I’m snorkeling. It’s generally the highlight of the swim. I’ve posted several photos which you can find by clicking on the Turtles tag.

I will do that, Graham. They are amazing creatures, aren’t they. Don’t they live a very long time?

They are amazing. I believe they can live for 75 years or more.

Thanks Jo. I always love seeing turtles, from land or in the water.

Oh the water, what a glorious colour. I’m also loving how the turtle’s position and flippers are playing with my eyes – it is almost as though this square is a trapeze!

This part of the bay is an almost landlocked lagoon. I like walking around the edge of it, taking photos of anything in there, because of the different weird visual effects. I never know exactly what I have until I look at them on screen because the water rippling makes the image change moment to moment.

I’d love to – I’ve only ever see the inside of the airport and the garden was beautiful 😍 so the islands must be amazing

Which airport was that?

Not sure, I flew in from Fiji en route to San Francisco. I assume Honolulu International Airport.

Probably, yes. The Big Island is a bit more laid back than Honolulu!

What? No glaciers, Graham? Who cares with this gorgeous shot of the sea turtle in turquoise waters!

No glaciers, but the freshwater intrusions make swimming in that water a bit chilly, so that’s close!
