This view of Mauna Kea is interesting for a couple of reasons, neither of which have to do with Mauna Kea itself.
The first is that it shows the dry side of Waimea, which is to say some of the western part of the town. The dry side gets considerably less rain and more blue skies than the wet side though the separation is only a few miles.
The second point of interest is that this view looks nothing like this today. The area between the dark line of trees and the base of the clouds is where the recent brushfire went through. So it’s not currently green and pastoral. It’s more black and brown and apocalyptic.
The good news is the land will recover, assuming there are no more fires for a while.
Graham's Island 
As it is already a dry region it is not that encouraging for a rapid recovery, but hopefully gentle rains will soon ease things back to life where possible.

Our weather is so erratic right now. Some very arid areas are quite green because they’re getting regular rainfall and other, normally green places, are parched and brown. There haven’t been any new fires for a while so we might be OK as we head into the fall and winter.

The crazy changes and extremes seem to be everywhere. As another example, here last week Friday it was 32 C max and the following day it was 11 C max with some highly exceptional snow just up the hill from where we live! Today its 32 again and summer hasn’t even started …
Can only hope that conditions where you are change enough to prevent any further fires.

We’ve had some rain so that’s helped. It’s amazing how a bit of rain greens up a usually dry area. On the other hand, if the rain ceases it doesn’t take long for the dry brown landscape to return.

You can look at the Algarve in the same way, Graham. Whilst we were in the UK there were some serious fires quite close to home 🙄💕
