    I like that a lot, too, and wish I could evacuate there. In Finland, the general feeling is that Russia will attack us next (there have been threats) and that we are on the verge of a nuclear World War III. I was seriously thinking of escape plans today. So, this beach looks perfect!

      These are worrying times, but I wouldn’t have thought Finland would be next on the list. Mind you I didn’t know about threats. I work with a woman from Russia and she was talking about the continued encroachment of NATO, which is a valid point. But I think the enthusiasm for joining NATO probably reflects those years of Soviet domination and the fact that many of those former Eastern Bloc countries don’t have a lot of faith in Putin or Russia, as current events amply illustrate. I hope your escape plans aren’t necessary, but it’s good to be prepared!

        We would be quite defenseless as a tiny, peaceful nation if they attacked and Russia has been threatening us for years that if we join Nato they’ll attack. They have now repeated this as Finland is about to become the frontier of their expansion into Europe. They are using inhumane warfare and Europe’s largest nuclear power plant is on fire. It’s not looking good and suddenly I understand why Elon wants to escape into space…

          I’m not sure I’d want to go anywhere with Elon! It is worrying what’s happening in Russia currently. I think Putin is trying to do something dramatic while he still can, but I’m not sure it’s going as he planned. I’d like to think that If he tries this again, he will be met with a wider, sterner resistance, but these days who can tell. Ultimately, I wonder what happens when Putin dies. He doesn’t seem to be grooming a successor, so I think it could be chaotic for a while.

            It’s not going as he intended, but that could spark an angry, dangerous decision since he is a pure lunatic. Who knows. And yes, what happens after him? Hopefully something good but perhaps that’s too much to ask for. What is mind-boggling to me is how the Russian people are completely in the dark. They think Putin is the good guy and apparently don’t follow foreign media. How can you not know what’s going on in this day and age of cell phones, internet and social media? How is such sensorship even possible in such a vast country with open borders?

              I’d express surprise at how people don’t know what’s going on, but I live in a country where the truth is easily accessible and many, many people willfully avoid it, preferring to listen only to fabrications that confirm their prejudices. There was an article on the BBC today about a woman living in Kharkiv and being shelled there, but her mother, who lives in Moscow, simply wouldn’t believe her because she believed what she was being told on Russian TV. It’s just too sad all around.

              It’s not just there, it’s everywhere. Many families in the U.S. are barely speaking because of the current entrenched political divide. Every year there are articles about how to survive Christmas and Thanksgiving because of this!
