Goodness! Not many people know what a vireya is. We grow them in Scott’s Valley (near Santa Cruz) but they must be protected from frost.

I didn’t either until I saw these. The Hawaii Chapter of the American Rhododendron Society (Vireya) has a garden at Hilo’s zoo and that’s where I saw these. Beautiful flowers, and not much danger of frost!
