
This is a view of the base of the petioles (leaf stems) of a traveler’s palm (Ravenala madagascariensis). It’s not a true palm but a member of the family Strelitzia with flowers similar to some bird of paradise flowers.

Nice. Looked up photos of the whole plant. So cool. Wish I could grow here! My windmill palm is taller than the porch roofline now.

They’re very striking plants. I’ll have to get a photo of a whole one to post. Glad to hear your windmill palm is surviving the Northwest winters.
