The view from the top of Puʻu Mahana

Puʻu Mahana is an ancient cinder cone near the southern tip of the island. It is best known for Papakōlea beach, the green sand beach, which formed when the ocean cut into one side of the pu’u, creating the bay seen here. The sand’s green color is due to the presence of the mineral olivine. (More photos here.)

      Thanks for the heads up, Terri. I had noted your May list and did have things lined up. I probably would have posted the Home topic if you hadn’t said something. I should probably make it my practice to at least check the subject within a day or two of the post, just to see if anything’s changed.

      Yes, I plan on being there in July. Not sure if I’ll be an everyday contributor, but I’ll definitely do some. Depends on how tricky your topic is!
