That’s twisted indeed, and just extraordinary how the tree survives. Do they usually grow like this, or has this one seen a changing landscape over the years?

I’m not sure what kind of tree this is, but several trees that grow near the ocean have some intricate root/trunk systems like this. It’s a bit like how mangrove trees grow.
