The house next door has been empty now for several months and is falling into disrepair. But this white hibiscus, at the front of the house, is flourishing with neglect. It’s loaded with blooms, with new ones unfurling in profusion. It almost makes me overlook how bad the rest of the house is looking. Almost.

I, too, always call them Hawaiian, although I believe there are some native Australian varieties.

I don’t these are native to Hawaii, though they are certainly everywhere here.

That’s a surprise!

I’ve just googled and there are 7 species native to Hawaii, but many there come from other countries and hybrids.

Yes, these are Chinese Hibiscus, one of the introduced varieties.

Just focus on the flowers? 😊 (I always call these “Hawaii flowers”, I love hibiscuses. I once bought some to decorate our windowsill, but I can tell you they DIDN’t enjoy my neglectful garneding style…)

$2.4 million is a lot for a hibiscus bush though!

Well, at least it’s Hawaii! Our prices are similar but no flowers included, just rain 😅
