The power light on a printer

I’d like to say this is an image that featured prominently in NASA’s recent foray into UFO investigations. (Apparently, they’re not called UFOs anymore. They’re UAPs (unidentified anomalous phenomena) which I find far less engaging.) However, this image is not of a UFO or even a UAP.

Recently, I got a new printer and it has this circular light that tells me it’s on. This light pulses continuously. It’s also very bright. When I got up in the middle of the night, it was like the house interior was illuminated by one of those rotating searchlights used in prison camps.

It’s a frightening thought that some designer thought this was a good idea. This consumer thought it a very bad idea. However, there was no way to turn the light off unless the machine was turned off. Plan B was to cover the light so it wasn’t so bright. Sounds simple, but it took several tries before finding a dense enough tape combination to dim the light to acceptable levels.

What a crazy world we live in. I feel the same way about the tv switch, the modem lights, the laptop charger…all the lights that ‘ shouldn’t be turned off’ overnight and just use electricity uselessly. Bah! It makes me very grumpy.

I’m not sure about that. I can’t imagine not having a computer and access to the internet, but if that happened, I suspect I would adapt to whatever the new situation was. Not that I’m eager to put that theory to the test!

Yep that is the most annoying thing ever. Reminds me of a Big Bang Theory show where Penny was driving Sheldon and they were talking about her car. He asked about a piece of tape on the dash. She said it was an annoying engine light that kept coming on so she put some tape over it.

Hahah, the prison light thing was a fun mental image. And I learned something new: UAP. Which is funny, too, because just yesterday I watch a short video reportage on the biggest Finnish news channel’s site where the reporter kept referring to the Mexican aliens as ”aliens” instead of the Finnish word. It was mind-boggling really. They pronounced ”alien” in the way that you would literally pronounce each letter in Finnish, but it’s not a Finnish word and it made no sense. Why not just use the correct word, or has it gone out of fashion like UFO? Not credible enough? Offensive to someone? The world has gone nuts.

You are correct that the world has gone nuts! To me, UAP is a sort of politically correct version of UFO and has none of its flair. I’ve never become a citizen here in the USA so I am officially a Resident Alien, a term I’ve always quite liked!
