I saw this Dwarf Moray Eel moving forward at a good clip. Then it spotted me, gave me a look, turned around, and headed right back where it came from. Just its head peeked out as it waited for me to move along and leave it to go its own way.

What a great sighting and lovely photos. I love the expression in the second photo!

That expression is the main reason I posted the photos!

It was shallow water so that helped!

Thanks Becky. I came across it in quite shallow water, which helped in getting decent photos.

I love the copper colour.

This one is probably the nicest one I’ve seen. It’s about as long as they get – a foot – and the markings were more colorful and bolder than any I’ve seen before.

The little ones don’t look a scary

These get to be about a foot long, which this one might have been, so not too scary!

It’s that head and jaws that I don’t like up close

There are several eels here that can be very nasty. I don’t mess with them.

Use the same respect for snakes walking around. Rule #1 Don’t poke the snake with a stick or anything
Rule #2 Don’t pick it up

No snakes here, but still good advice. I don’t think poking anything with a stick is a good idea!

I am not keen on eating them either!

I’ve never seen one of those here.

I don’t see them here often either. They’re secretive and small, no more than a foot long, so easy to miss.
