That’s exactly what I was saying to my husband this morning, after he told me that spider crabs had been grouping in large numbers in our south west, and scientists believed in was for safety, as predatory numbers had increased. Apparently, they are very vulnerable between shedding and hardening.
I didn’t know they did that!

I’m always amazed by the completeness of a molt. How do they wriggle out of all those tiny little spots?

Yes, I think post-molt is a dangerous time for pretty much everything.
