Solanum linnaeanum, sometimes called the devil’s apple, hails from Africa and is an invasive weed in Hawaii. The flowers are colorful, but the plant is studded with thorns and is poisonous.

I don’t know if this was a deliberate import or not. However, Hawaii has had a multitude of poorly thought out introductions. It’s sad really.

It looks very much like something we call the potato vine, Graham. I didn’t know it was poisonous, but then, a few plants are, aren’t they? Pretty in a hedge.

There are quite a few poisonous plants around. This one is somewhat invasive so best to pull out.
