I was given a tiny curry plant and it’s been thriving in a pot on the lanai. Recently, it bloomed for the first time, with a small spread of delicate white flowers. Next up will be putting it in the ground, which will require a suitable site and a fence around it, or the pigs will make short work of it.

    Lovely to have curry tree leaves available for cooking. We brought a potted one with us from KZN. We kept them in pots there as they became altogether too rampant in the climate there, where they tend to send suckers up along the roots even at quite a distance from the ‘parent’ tree. However, they also quite quickly want to outgrow their pots!

    Graham, that’s great. Once they’re established you won’t look back. We have a monster of a plant that receives mostly dappled light as it’s under the grape vine. So in winter it gets full sun. Everyone remarks on its size and health and we think it’s the protection. Many Indian friends ( from whom we got the original) have theirs in pots that they move around while trying to find the best spot and take advantage of the weather. Good luck with it, they’re great in vegetarian dishes and curries, of course.

      We’ve already used a few leaves and they’re very good. The neighborhood is overrun with wild pigs. It’s not too bad currently, but when our mango tree starts dropping fruit, look out!
