If they’re around and you stand still they will walk right past you. I think they know they’re protected now so they don’t have to worry about getting shot and the like!
Nice pic – hadn’t heard of a Nene before. Apparently the rarest of all the geese? Unlike our aptly named Cobra Chicken, the Canada goose, which is everywhere.
Don’t know if it’s the rarest, but it was nearly wiped out here. Happily, the numbers have rebounded to the extent that they were removed from the endangered species list.

That’s what telephoto lens are for! They aren’t really aggressive birds, though I’d be wary if they had a chick with them.

It could be. I like nenes because usually, when they’re walking around, they make little burbling noises. It’s quite charming.
