Jalousie windows, or louvered windows, are quite common in Hawaii. The old versions provide good ventilation, but aren’t great for keeping out rain, bugs, or people! I believe newer models are better in that regard. What I like about them is the interesting reflections they offer.

Queensland has those windows once upon a time, and the Northern Territory, too. Cyclones and modern tastes have seen them fade away.

They’re tropical windows, now less useful with air conditioning.

I like the reflections in the louvres.
I have a louvre window in my bedroom and it is great in summer for the breeze that comes up the hill. I have a screen to stop insects and a verandah so no water issues either.

I’ve only lived in one house with these windows and they were a bit of a pain as I recall, but it was only for a short time.

They take time to clean that’s the only pain I have with them

Never had to clean the ones we had, but I can see it would be tricky.

I’ve seen these types of windows countless times, Graham, but I didn’t know their official name. The do make lovely abstract-like reflections!

I can’t remember how I came by the name actually!
