Jacquemontia sandwicensis is a low-growing groundcover which requires little water and is salt tolerant, which makes it ideal for growing on the coast. The little blue or white flowers bloom year round. One of the morning glory family (Convolvulaceae), it’s endemic to Hawaii, where it’s known as Pāʻuohiʻiaka.

Beautiful flowers – such a delicate coloour – though I too cannot imagine how to pronounce its name in either language!

I never said I could pronounce the name, but I can spell it.

I read your title and wondered at the pronunciation, then got to the Hawaiian name and shook my head.

Don’t worry, you’re not alone. I kind of know how the pronunciation works here, but I still butcher it all the time.

Pretty little thing. We have them from palest pink to deep purpley pink, but no blue 🙂 🙂

They’re mostly blue to white here, at least the ones I’ve seen.
