I played a game of peek-a-boo with this mourning gecko as it clung to a clothes line. I leaned one way to get a photo, it scooted round the other way, keeping the line between me and it. But patience won out and I was able to get several good views.

Looked up “mourning gecko” – we have a different variety in Singapore so this is new to me, and I am very taken by the name. The story of how it was named is so compelling: folks attributed their chirping sounds as them mourning the loss of their mate!

Sometimes they remain motionless and are easy to capture. I’m fascinated at how many times geckos watch my eyes and if I look away for a moment, they’re gone!
