Red junglefowl

A Red junglefowl in Hawaii
A Red junglefowl in Hawaii

This week’s Sunday Stills challenge theme is ‘Fur and Feathers.’ See more responses here.

This bird is probably a red junglefowl (Gallus gallus) or Moa in Hawaii. I say probably, because some regular chickens (Gallus domesticus) can have a similar look and there is considerable interbreeding between the two species.

The red junglefowl is considered to be the first introduced bird species in Hawaii, since it was brought here by early Polynesian settlers.

He looks like on of my roosters from many years ago. http://bushboy.blog/2014/01/06/my-rooster/
It was one of my early posts before I knew what I was doing with a blog. Then Yvette found me and suggested photo challenges. Once I did a few, there was a lot of people wanting more and gave encouragement so all of those people are responsible for my addiction. I name most of them in this post

Yours is the first comment I’ve had to moderate, I guess because WordPress didn’t like the two links in it! Your rooster does have a similar look. I think the interbreeding probably account for the similarities.

They brought a lot of animals and plants with them. This one was on a bank at about head height and I noticed him as I walked by. He was just looking at me and didn’t seem at all bothered as I took photos.
