This photo is from a while back but it could be right now as Tropical Storm Calvin approaches the Big Island. The storm was a hurricane while in the Eastern Pacific, but it weakened as it neared Hawaii. Yesterday afternoon, the storm strengthened again with winds up to 60 mph. Who knows what will happen to it overnight, but I’m scheduling this ahead of time in case the power goes out.
Hurricanes here have been a mixed bag. Hurricane Lane, which hit the island in 2018, stalled off the west coast of the island, bringing gray skies but little wind or rain to the west coast. The eastern part of the island had a different experience. They had 54 inches of rain in three days!

Well, if they give you a choice, do take the drier option.

We didn’t get the drier option! This part of the island has had rain all day long, but since we’d been in a drought it’s really not a bad thing.

Take care and good luck, Graham!

We’ve had a lot of rain, which was much needed here, but the winds weren’t bad so not too much damage anywhere I don’t think.

Hope all is well there Graham!

Not too bad. We’ve had a full day of rain but not too much wind so can’t complain.

Some of that rain would be well appreciated further east on the PNW. It’s been too dry and too hot. Hope you’re safe Graham!

Well, we’re keeping it because it’s been really dry here too. This part of the island has been looking very brown, but I’m hoping our day of rain will green things up again

Hope the tropical storm stays fairly mild, Graham!

Not too bad really. Quite a bit of rain in places, 6 inches or so, and some wind as well, but nothing too dangerous or destructive.

Wow, 6 inches is a LOT!

Yes it is. Here, it rained for a long time but I doubt we had that much.
