This praying mantis was on the ground at work and likely to get stepped on, so I moved it to a safer spot. In the process, it opened its wings exposing the lovely markings on them.

That is so beautiful. I can’t believe how like a butterfly and mantis pairing it is.

It was beautiful. First time I’ve seen mantis wings like that.

Then a good capture, as well.

Strangely beautiful, Graham. I don’t think I’ve ever seen one.

I think this is the first time I’ve seen those wing patterns, so it turned into a lucky encounter, for the mantis and me.

Aww, I do the same thing, Graham! They seem so slow and reluctant to move. I moved a very pregnant big female once and she bit my finger. I guess she didn’t appreciate the “hand of God,” LOL! But wow, those wings are something else–I’m sure I’ve never seen their wings before!

Well this one didn’t bite me but it wasn’t happy. It would have been less happy when someone trod on it though. The wings were the happy bonus of this encounter. I don’t think I’ve seen that before.either.
