Spencer Beach Park is a place I visit fairly often. Recently, I had the opportunity to fly to Maui and, while I was in the air, took the usual plethora of photos. Some of these were of the park.
The top photo shows the park with its sandy beach, surrounding trees, and calm blue waters offshore. It also shows how close the recent brush fires came to the park. The building on the left side of the photo is the visitor center for Pu’ukohola Heiau National Historic Site, which adjoins the site.
In the bottom photo, Spencer is at the lower left. To the right is Mauna Kea resort, which did suffer some damage in the fires. Mauna Kea Volcano provides the backdrop.

The area looks pastoral, is that true? The water is a fabulous blue and the volcano has a cloud collar. Dormant?

It is pastoral, but dry on this part of the island. Closer to Mauna Kea, at a higher elevation, there’s more rain and so more grass. And, yes, Mauna Kea is dormant.

I don’t like drones, but I can see how good they are for taking photos from above. I doubt I’ll ever have a drone, but I can still get photos from the air when I get the chance!

Same here, I was at a conference where drones were demonstrated. The one I really liked was over $3000. Lot of airfares or even a joy flights for that amount.

That’s a little rich for my blood. Plus, I’d probably crash it into a tree!

It’s a great little spot. I think the fire was held up in several area at places that get regular watering. The park was one of those spots.
