The Manago Hotel is a well-known spot on the island. It opened in Captain Cook back in 1917 and has been in business ever since. But recently, it was announced that the building is being acquired by a Honolulu-based nonprofit organization, which will convert it into affordable housing for people working for community services.
The hotel has its own restaurant and that will continue to operate in the new arrangement. This will be good news to many, since the restaurant is renowned for it’s pork chops, which I can verify are excellent.

It’s a pity. It would be good for community services to have an easy access shop front though. Might even be good business for the restaurant if they open for breakfast or lunch

I’m not sure how it will work. I think those staying there could be working anywhere on the island, so not necessarily the lunch crown. But if they don’t mess things up the restaurant should always be busy.

By community services, do you mean nurses, firefighters and such, or something different?

Yes, that kind of thing. I think they also look out for those recovering from mental health issues.

A worthwhile venture.

Indeed. Only stayed there once, but it was one of those funky old hotels I love staying at.
