No, it’s not the circus in town, it’s another church tented to gas those pesky termites that could otherwise chew their way through the building. This one is St. Augustine’s Episcopal Church at Kapaau. I’ve pondered before on the theological implications of this practice, but I suppose it falls under casting out demons, rather than mistreating God’s creatures!

Such a festive tent for such a purpose! Even odder with the gravestones and palm trees all around.

It’s not uncommon to see structures tented, but there are only so many churches so they stand out. I think the bold colors are to make it obvious what’s going on so that people stay away.

Is that another one?

I think I posted the local Catholic church two or three years ago. They all go through the process, no doubt.

I guess it could have been that long ago. Still interesting way of fumigation. I don’t think I’d go into the church until it had been aired out for at least 6 months

I’m not sure how it works or what’s used, but I know it’s supposed to be safe to return within a day or two!

It’s a legal term that means ‘void where prohibited by a lack of oxygen.’

It’s a common sight to see houses tented, but when it’s a big building like a church, it’s something special!
