
I saw this sign in Hawi. It’s on a side road leading to a local housing scheme. It won’t be seen by most people passing through the town, but reflects a degree of unease or unhappiness with how things are going in Hawaii, with housing issues being near the top of the list.

I like the intent. We have areas on the north coast NSW like that too 🥹

The ability to live and work anywhere has created imbalances the world over I think.

People come here, say isn’t this a quaint village/place/environment and want to live here. Suddenly thousands are moving in and the quaintness they craved is gone and the environment trashed

People tend to like places to stay the way they were when they first visited, and changes are usually regarded as the beginning of the end. Where I lived in Washington State, there was a bumper sticker I rather liked. It read, ‘Let’s keep Port Townsend the way it never was.’

I doubt new residents would be especially bothered by it. They wouldn’t think it applied to them!
