Sonny’s Place was a long-established restaurant in downtown Hawi. It was still in business when I first moved here, though it looked worse for wear even then. I was advised not to eat there. Within a couple of years it appeared to be shut down, though the difference was marginal at best.
Recently, someone bought the place and I wondered what they would do with it. Then this excavator appeared and I thought I should get photos before the building disappeared. I finally did a couple of Sundays ago. The next day the lot was cleared.

It’s a quaint building Graham and I like those doors – they remind me of old 1920s doors that squeak every time you open them.

I bet these squeaked too, either from their age or from the rats they hit when they opened!

It will live on in digital memories now. I’m sure a new structure will take its place and hopefully be successful.

I think so. A lot of the old plantation buildings had a pleasing look. I know because I live in one of them!

They get updated inside but the look outside remains.

I’m all for preserving old buildings, but this one had been really let go and the termites had taken over. I hope whatever replaces it fits in with the town.
