The Asian Spiny-backed Orb-weaver Spider (Thelacantha brevispina) is an introduced species. Here, they’re known as crab spiders, which is how I’ve always referred to them, but they’re quite different to true crab spiders.
These are two different spiders, but give a good view of how they look, top and bottom.

In the first shot I think it looks like a walnut, but definitely a spider in the second.

The native one here is called a Jewel Spider bit look quite similar except in colour

I think they have a wide distribution. No native spiders here of course.

Actually, I misspoke there. For some reason I was thinking of mammals and reptiles, which mostly couldn’t reach Hawaii without help. Insects could get here, on floating things and the like.
