There’s a water dispenser in downtown Hawi that’s available 24 hours, seven days a week. Quite a lot of people live off grid here and while they collect catchment water, they often don’t have systems for making it safe to drink. That’s where this spot comes in handy. It could use a new banner though.

It’s a good idea. When you say ‘off grid’ do you mean they squat? As in semi-homeless?

No, off grid here just means places not connected to the municipal power, water, or sewer, not that there is a sewer system where I live. So they have solar panels or wind vanes, and catchment water. Some are multi-million dollar homes!

We have water dispensers in town to refill your water bottle or have a drink. These were mainly to reduce the amount of plastic bottles being used.
At least there isn’t tattered signage

It’s pretty wet and windy where the machine and banner are so they get a good going over.

That makes sense to have the water dispenser available. Yep, the banner has seen better days!

I just wonder how long the machine will last here, outdoors, and with no protection from the wind and rain.
