What stunning colours – and a great example of happy serendipity!

A wonderful shot, Graham. I don’t care for the sulphuric part of the name. I get a bad smell feeling from it. Not your fault, obviously. 😉

Well, I don’t generally sniff butterflies, but I’ve never noticed a bad smell around them!

But you have to admit that the word, sulfur or sulfuric conveys a sort of smell. I’m not saying the butterfly actually smells like that, but it’s just sort of an offputting name.

I agree it’s not a flattering name, although I think it refers more to the color than anything else.

Wow Graham, a fabulous colourful macro. Pretty butterfly, flower and water drops, the perfect trio

Often when I watch insects, I am filled with curiosity about whether they actually think and if so, without language, what their thoughts consist of. Images? Impulses? I think it is good I don’t know or I would never be able to kill another insect in my life.. even the leafcutter ants who desecrate and strip my garden if allowed to go on living there.

Well, they certainly communicate as they’re very organized, but swarming over my kitchen counter is still not OK in my book!

I know. I’ve flushed about a million tiny ants down my drain in my lifetime but must admit I feel guilty about it thinking that each on is a living being…and perhaps there are living beings in the universe that would view me in the same way.

Well, I’m not a vegetarian, so I’ve consumed what were living beings. I guess that means I’m in deep trouble!
