The trees next door looked quite good after the area was cleaned out a while back. Now the cane grass has grown back and there’s not much to see there again.

I can imagine. Acacias are tough plants that survive in difficult environments

I also wondered what type of tree they were. At first I thought it might be a wetland variety but on second glance, I am not sure.

I think it’s Taiwan Acacia, also known as Acacia confusa. It’s a bit of a weed here!

Fabulous photo Graham. The trees look good with the understory removed. Was it just the grass? At least it gives good mulch

It was cane grass which can be six feet or more high and has a tough stalk.

That should be kept cut I reckon unless there’s an ecosystem that relies on Cane Grass for their survival

It’s from the old plantation days, though there are things the feed on the seeds and live in the cover it provides.
