Since the collapse and closure of the old Kohala Ditch, there’s been no reliable source of water for the many agricultural enterprises in the area. This is a new well and water tank under construction near Hawi, which is intended to help mitigate that water shortage.

Very modern. We have desalination plants here. Plenty of salt water to go around.

Well the ditch was constructed by the original sugar plantation owners for their thirsty crop. These days, the problem has more to do with climate change and reduced rainfall in normally wet areas.

Water is a precious resource. Any kind of conservation or reuse is a good idea in my book.

It’s kind of an ongoing problem. Where I live, it used to be wet and green, but that’s not the case any more.
