They can sometimes look quite dowdy and dull – not quite sure why – but when they’re in their bright outfits, those colors really pop.

Are their coats sensitive to different light ray levels or do you mean on bright days? Maybe they have periodic changes in their systems which show on their skins or maybe that bright show is a defensive strategy?

I read somewhere that these geckos, kept as pets, must have the right amount of heat and light in order to maintain their bright colors. So perhaps, when I see one looking a bit drab, it’s because the weather here has been cool and wet. I’ll have to watch for that.
