Whitetip reef shark

This week’s Sunday Stills challenge theme is ‘Something Scary.’ See more responses here.

Here’s a photo of a whitetip reef shark passing almost directly beneath me. In truth, these sharks aren’t especially scary since they’re more curious than dangerous, but the sinuous movement and serious chompers can send a shiver through anyone who encounters them in the water.

Well that is definitely scarier than my itty bitty hummingbird! I remember squirming and squealing into my snorkel mask when I was a few feet from a whale shark in Baja, so I can imagine what you must feel when you see a shark in the water, Graham! That’s a great shot!

I’d love to see a whale shark. Lucky you. This shark was the first one my wife had seen and it kept doing loops back and forth, so when I turned up she took that as a good opportunity to get the heck out of there and leave me to it!
