
Mourning geckos are nocturnal, but this one was caught going up a corrugated panel in daylight. The bumpy texture of the panel is a bit like the gecko itself.

Tell me about it. I marvel at them zipping up walls and scampering, upside down, across the ceiling. They’re fun to watch.

Oops hit send too early…… was going to add are they shy? The ones we see in Portugal don’t hang around if they see humans, so getting a great shot like this isn’t easy.

The nocturnal geckos, such as this one, tend to zip away pretty quick though, when caught in daylight, often freeze for a while. The day geckos are much bolder and tend to just stare at anyone looking. But if you take your eyes off them, even for a moment, they too usually disappear.
