This week’s Friendly Friday challenge theme is ‘Something Fishy.’ See more responses here.
This seemed like a good opportunity to post a gallery of some of the fish I see when I snorkel around here. Most are brightly colored or have distinctive markings.
Also posted in response to Becky’s April Squares challenge theme of ‘Bright.’ See more responses here.
A very fishy post Graham 🙂 🙂

An excellent gallery, Graham. I feel like I am looking at a specialist aquarium’s catalogue. I love that the seas are so plentiful with colourful tropical fish. And that you are able to capture them in their natural environment. Well photographed!

Thanks Amanda. I’m happy to report that the aquarium fish trade has been shut down on the island for several months now. Hopefully, it will never restart.

So they used to trade in these stunning creatures? That is sad for the ecosystem. I am glad it is no longer active.

Some fish, such as yellow tang, which are a staple of the aquarium trade, don’t breed in captivity. They’re a popular and colorful aquarium fish, but all of them have to be gathered from the wild. Those in the trade say they’re careful about not over harvesting, but their actions don’t support their words.

I didn’t know that. How dreadful. When or if I saw one in and acquarium, I would feel quite sad. I hope this is one product that does not get popular…..

Yellow tang are very popular in aquariums because they’re so brightly colored. They can still be acquired from other places though.

I always marvel at the bright colors that live in the ocean. Awesome photos!

Yes, there are a lot of brightly colored fish, which one would think would make them easy prey. A few are poisonous, so the color is a warning.

Yes it was. Hardest part was winnowing down the options!

They’re all beautiful, Graham! I had a hard time seeing the flounder though- a master of disguise!

Thanks Jacquie. Usually, I have to see flounders moving to spot them.
