They look scary up close! As kids, my brother was mesmerised by one he saw in an aquarium… I still remember him staring at it for ages and ages. Would be a bit spooky to actually spot one in the wild! It’s such a long one, too

A guy I know got bitten by an eel and still bears the scar. Some eels are notoriously ill-tempered, but I’ve never had any problems with them. I don’t tend to get in their faces. This one seemed positively mellow.
