This week’s Sunday Stills challenge theme is ‘Fleeting Moments.’ See more responses here.
The orange and black spiky thing is a Passion Vine Butterfly caterpillar, which I saw munching on a passion vine, as they do. The fly didn’t register with me until I processed the photos, but it was definitely a fleeting moment.

Wow! So colorful! Kind of looks like a dragon in macro.

They’re very distinctive. The colors and spikes are a warning as the caterpillars are poisonous.

Oh my goodness, Graham, now this is a fleeting moment or rather a micro-second! To catch that fly-by was incredible! The caterpillar itself represents fleeting moments in the critter kingdom! Just wow!

The fly was entirely fortuitous. It didn’t register with me at all when I was taking the photos.

Good catch. Are those spikes as sharp as they look?

I haven’t checked as I think they’re a bit toxic. Their appearance is geared toward scaring predators for that reason.
