This week’s Sunday Stills challenge theme is ‘Awakening.’ See more responses here.
There’s no shortage of roosters and hens in Hawaii and the roosters are keen to fulfill their role in making sure everyone knows a new day is dawning. However, it has to be noted that they’re just as likely to awaken you from an afternoon nap as from a good night’s sleep. That’s because they can be heard crowing most any time of day, and sometimes half the night, too. This one was going off at five in the afternoon.
That’s an awesome picture!!!

It is crazy what the roosters do here. Next door has one who crows constantly even though they free range. Of course he sometimes gets others to join in from other properties. Years ago I used to love laying in bed in the mornings and listen to the roosters doing the round from the six properties in the street

These are free range, but that never seems to make a difference. I quite like occasional crowing; it’s when there are a lot around that it gets to be too much!

A wake up call indeed, as Aletta commented, Graham. I enjoy the occasional rooster crow!

Me too, emphasis on occasional. The problem is when there’s several of them or they’re right outside the house!

It can be, but in truth there are quite a few birds that make up the dawn chorus around here.
