Surf rolling on along the North Kohala coast in Hawaii

This week’s Sunday Stills Monthly Color Challenge is Aquamarine. See more responses here.

It’s the season for big swells from the northwest, and these photos are from the last one. A new one is supposed to fill in today. These are good news for surfers around here, not so good for us snorkelers.

Thanks Kirstin. Have a great time on Oahu. This is the season for northwest swells so if there’s one going when you’re there you should head to the north shore for a look. They have some monster waves there, which people surf!

When the waves are rolling in like this I like to get as close as I can. I’ve found some spots that are quite safe, but very close to the breaking waves. It’s a lot of fun being down there.

Oh my gosh, these are amazing captures, Graham! This is exactly how I picture the color of aquamarine as found in the waves. I might have a couple of these myself, LOL! Have a great week–raining here in San Diego this weekend. Oh well, we head back to Scottsdale in a few days for the last leg of our trip.

I think the parks might be closed for a while. There’s a series of swells coming in. Mind you, I saw a lot of cars parked outside the gates. Surfers aren’t going to worry about a little thing like closed gates.
