Visiting Kailua Kona, it’s never hard to know if a cruise ship is in. They invariably are the largest thing in view, dwarfing any and all of the downtown buildings. On a recent visit, I got this photo from the Walmart parking lot (a solid contender for the Walmart with the best view in the world!).
It used to be that Wednesday was cruise ship day, but currently there are three or four ships a week stopping by. This one is the Europa 2, which is operated by Hapag-Lloyd Cruises. It carries up to 516 passengers, which means it is less crowded than most cruise ships.
Ah yes. We cold climate people heading for warmer climates.

Yes it is, and still far too big for me to have any interest.

We did a Danube cruise wirh 96 people. That was actually not bad. Rarely were we all in the same spot.

There’s a small cruise ship that I see here sometimes, which does educational cruises. Onboard experts explain about local flora and fauna and the like. I think there’s around 50 passengers. I could see doing something like that.

Cruise ships do look amazing but not for me. Never been on a big one but just an evening around Sydney Harbour was enough to turn me off being contained on water with nowhere else to go with some people I don’t want to be around.
You could start a photo challenge for the Walmart with the best view 😂

I’ve done one cruise and that was enough. I loved sailing on the ocean, but not with a thousand people on the boat!

I’ve done one cruise in my life and that was enough for me. I like space and quiet places and that’s not a cruise ship!
