I saw these three feral cats at Kawaihae Small Boat Harbor. They were giving me the kind of look you see in horror movies, but seemed placid enough. None have clipped ears, indicating they’ve not been spayed or neutered, though it’s possible they’re young enough to have not been rounded up yet. Either way, we don’t look likely to run out of cats here any time soon.

Indeed. They didn’t plan to be obnoxious

it is hard to feel sorry for a feral cat. They do so much damage.

That’s true, and here they carry a parasite that can be fatal to monk seals. But I find it hard to blame the cats. We wouldn’t have feral cats if humans didn’t keep dumping their unwanted and unfixed pets.

They looked in great condition, but had that ‘Children of the Damned’ look.

It’s a sad situation and all too common in many places, not just here.

I didn’t get that close, but frankly, most cats look like they’d be happy to do me in!

Aw poor kitties! At least they have good weather living in the wild in Hawaii. I remember staying in Hilo and watching volunteers come and feed the many feral cats in the park.

These three looked in good shape, so I expect they’re getting fed regularly.
