I found this conehead katydid hugging the ground on a windy day. I think it’s probably a common conehead, but can’t say for sure.

Katydid
A katydid waits on the corner of the lanai, its stick-like legs at odd angles, appearing broken in the middle. But if I get too close it will ping away, as those same legs rocket it to safety.

This very small katydid gave me a wary look as I descended the front steps. It had good reason to since katydids have been one of the main munchers of the basil plants. But since those plants are now safe under netting, I tiptoed past without so much as a nasty glare.

A katydid, probably heading toward one of the basil plants. I think this one might be one of the bush katydids, but there are an awful lot of them.
