I spotted this grasshopper on the fence surrounding Upolu Airport. When I got my camera out, the grasshopper edged to one side to keep the wire fence between us. I moved that way, the grasshopper moved back. We did this a few times, during which I was able to get these photos, before I left him in peace.
Aww! He’s clinging on tight 🙂 🙂 I can never get over how much noise they make!

They can be loud, though here they’re being drowned out by ever increasing numbers of coqui frogs.

Are the frogs becoming a nuisance, or just being noisy frogs? 🙂 🙂

Well, I guess they’re becoming a nuisance by being very noisy frogs. Their call can reach 100 decibels, which is louder than many power tools and lawn equipment. They hail from Puerto Rico and are thought to have arrived here in the 1980s on plant imports.

So not just noisy when they’re mating then? 🙂

No, though it is all about attracting mates and repelling competitors. You won’t be surprised to hear that it’s the males that make all the noise!

A lot of creatures, very wisely, are wary about us big, clumsy people!
