The idea of The Numbers Game is to enter a number into the search bar of your computer and then post a selection of the photos that turn up. This week’s number is 154. Captions are on the photos. You can see more responses here.

Two Nenes establish the pecking order (Original post here).

Your beach photo reminds me of Holly Beal’s coastal scenes. She’s a mixed media artist and I think must have taken references from your area. I thinks it’s the light and color of your picture and of course, those iconic palm trees

It’s a beach scene that probably has similarities with a fair number of places in the tropics, but no less appealing for that.

That was one happy gecko, and sad moth too I suppose.

What was the shrapnel from? It was hard deciding whether the mantis was eating the wasp or vice versa! Great pics. Love the pecking order one…well presented. Thanks for sharing with us.

The shrapnel was left over from In World War II, when the area was used to train for the invasion of Tarawa. The mantis was most definitely eating the wasp. More graphic photos of the scene at https://grahamsisland.com/2019/06/19/praying-mantis-eating-a-wasp/

Yes.. those were amazingly clear. A big mouthful. I love watching praying mantises as well. Love the pun of praying/preying. I’ve done two shoots of my observations but not as closeup as yours!! In one, the male was riding on the back of the female as she climbed the wall of my studio. Then she combed the face of a lit spotlight with her “hands” and seemed to be eating theinsects that had gathered on it. Then she ate her poor spouse who was less than half her size.

Ooo, I haven’t seen one consuming her spouse. The best thing about mantises are that they keep still. Makes them a good subject for photography!

I was as happy as the gecko with that one. The moth wasn’t so pleased though.

In World War II, the area was used to train for the invasion of Tarawa. After the war, the area was cleared, but lots of shrapnel was left behind as well as bullets and the odd piece of live ammo!

It is, which is why I like this challenge. Don’t know whether you followed the Nene link, but after the pecking, the first bird left by walking through the water bowl!
