Recently, I’ve seen these two donkeys in a small field alongside the road over Kohala Mountain. The last time I went by I remembered to stop and take photos. The donkeys were not impressed.

They definitely do look suspicious. They are attractive creatures. The markings do seem unusual so perhaps they are mules.

I’m pretty sure they’re donkeys. They’re not as big as mules, and something I only recently learned is that donkeys have that dark stripe over the shoulder. Mules don’t!

I noticed the dark stripe but didn’t know mules never have such stripes. I have not seen donkeys with different coloured patches on their faces and bodies before, so that was surprising.

The donkeys’ coloring was a first for me too.

Could be. I think they weren’t used to anyone paying attention to them.

A bit of that. Mostly they looked pretty bored!

Wow, they are prettier than I expected–I don’t think I’ve seen donkeys ever.

The markings are different than I’ve seen before, and then there’s always the question of whether these are donkeys or mules!

Ah, well l’m no animal expert–l don’t even have pets…except for the little koala who flew all the way from Australia one Christmas to live with me. He’s very wise, his name is Pax. Happy St Patrick’s Day!
