On Kohala Mountain Road there’s an outfit called Paniolo Adventures that offers horseback rides on an 11,000 acre working cattle ranch. Once in a while I stop by to check out the horses. I saw these three on my last visit. This would make a good album cover I think!

A couple of days ago I posted a Yellow-billed Cardinal bathing at this pool of water. It’s popular with insects too.
A Gold Dust Day Gecko on a shiny counter. This is one of my rare phone photos. My phone camera isn’t the greatest by any means, but it was all I had for this one, and I wanted to capture the reflection and the gecko’s inquisitive nature.
I rarely see these butterflies here, though I think they’re not uncommon. This one was in newly watered grass, either resting or getting a drink of water. I got a couple of photos and then it was gone.
On a recent walk I passed a couple of fields of cattle. In the first, I saw the one in the top photo. I noticed its horns going in different directions. But in the next field, I saw another one with a similar set of horns, with one important difference. My immediate thought was that these two should get together and swap horns and each would end up with a matching set!
I saw this praying mantis on a crown flower recently. It’s undoubtedly the smallest I’ve ever seen. It might also be the fastest moving mantis I’ve seen. It was zipping around, mostly trying to shake me off, I think!

I saw this female Hawaiian Garden Spider scooting up a strand of her web during a welcome rain shower. She stopped just before reaching the top and was soon the recipient of drops of water dripping from the roof. When the rain passed, she carried on up to the gutter.
I think she was getting some water to drink and possibly enjoying having a little wash. It’s been very dry here lately and water has been in short supply for the local wildlife.
